But unfortunately dirOpener300-702-1-PC.exe couldn't open the file needed... I don't understand why, 'cause later versions of dirOpener opened it perfectly.
Perhaps you've got dirOpener for Director 7.0 not 7.02 (although when I installed 7.02 update it didn't help)?

I tried to use dirOpener300-850-1-pc.exe, to view dxr files. When I click open and go to their folder, the program cannot view them. Any help on this one? Thanks.

I was able to convet a password protected file...but when i output it as a nother protected file to replace the one that was opned it says Movie HTAP cannot be loaded. the file verion is to new? what the heck is that?

Hello! Thanks much for this program. I had an old Director EXE projector (ver 7.02), and had lost the old original source files. I was able to use utilities to extract the .DIR files, and then DirOpen to unprotect the files.

You first use XENA to extract the .DIR files from the Director EXE file. You can get Xena Pro from

And then I used dirOpener to unprotect the .DIR file, and was able to extract everything, including all original source files as well as the original timing and scripting. This is great!

Recently my backup drive crashed and I lost a lot of originals of my projects. I have the main director file that opens the .dcr files in a new window.

When I try to use the dcr files on the web it says...This applictaion requires an Xtra (animated gif? ...) that either does not exist or failed to initialize properly. Please make sure the appropriate Xtra are in the Xtra folder(s)". I have the same xtras as I do on my portfolio cdrom and it does not give the error. only when I use it on the web. Any suggestions?

I have a software demo CD from 1999. It has a really relaxing new age music loop in a Dir file that I would like to rip as an mp3 file if possible (just the audio). The file contains the loop plus a single graphic image with embedded hyperlinks to navigate to other parts of the demo. The .dir file does play on Firefox. The filesize in 23MB. I blindly used dirOpener on the file which generated another .dir file of 12.5 MB and a .exe file. The second smaller .dir file works too. I’m not a macromedia guy so have no idea what to do next.
